Biology
Is Biomolecules Botany or Zoology in NEET?
Biomolecules is usually filed under Zoology in NEET (Physics Wallah, NEETprep), though some put it under Botany. Here is why, the class and unit, and how many marks it carries.
The short answer
Zoology, in the most common coaching classification. Physics Wallah and NEETprep both file Biomolecules under Zoology. A few sources, like Careers360, list it under Botany, so you may see it on either list.
It does not matter for your score. NEET gives you one combined Biology mark. The label only tells you which module and which mock-test section the chapter sits in.
Why it goes with Zoology
Biomolecules is Chapter 9 of Class 11 NCERT, in Unit 3, "Cell Structure and Function". Its two unit-mates — Cell: The Unit of Life and Cell Cycle and Cell Division — are usually filed under Botany. So by placement alone, Biomolecules "should" be Botany.
But the chapter is all proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, and metabolism. Most institutes teach this with the Zoology side, and the two biggest — Physics Wallah and NEETprep — tag it Zoology. In NEET 2024, when the paper was split into a Botany half and a Zoology half, Biomolecules questions turned up in both. That is why the lists disagree.
How many marks is Biomolecules worth?
Biomolecules is a steady scorer. Over the last five years it has given roughly 3 to 5 questions — about 4% of the Biology paper, or 12 to 20 marks.
Most questions are direct and NCERT-based: types of biomolecules, enzyme properties, and structure. It is a high-return chapter for the time it takes.
Practice Biomolecules
The label is just filing. What moves your rank is solving questions.
Read the full Biomolecules chapter guide for what actually gets asked, then drill it on Practice. When your accuracy holds, test it in a full-length NEET mock test.
