NCERT — Neural Control and Coordination. The brain is the central information-processing organ. It has three parts: the forebrain (cerebrum, thalamus, hypothalamus), the midbrain, and the hindbrain (cerebellum, pons and medulla oblongata).
The cerebrum is the largest part and controls thinking, memory, intelligence and voluntary movement. The cerebellum coordinates balance, posture and precise movement. The medulla oblongata controls involuntary vital functions such as heartbeat, breathing and blood pressure.
The brain and spinal cord form the central nervous system (CNS), protected by three membranes (meninges) and cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
